Bald Role Model #2: Jason Statham


British actor Jason Statham is an extremely well-known face in Hollywood these days thanks to countless action movies including the later releases of the Fast and Furious franchise as Deckard Shaw.

Born in Derbyshire in the Midlands region of England in 1967, Statham started young with his interests in martial arts, and began training in kickboxing, karate and kung fu. His love for sports and training actually lead to a brief career as an Olympian for the British Diving Team during the 1990 Commonwealth Games in New Zealand. He once cited that his time in the Olympic team taught him focus and discipline; practices that he still believes in to this day.

During the early and mid 90s, Statham worked in modelling and appeared in campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger and Levi's among others. On top of this, he also starred in a few music videos including the 1995 song "Dream a Little Dream of Me" by the Beautiful South.

It wasn't until the late 90s when Statham made his break onto the screen, starring in Guy Ritchie's 1998 cult classes "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", and later in the 2000 film Snatch. Given his appearance and accent, Statham was quickly type cast into similar roles where he played the bad boy style mercenary character, and the number of films he starred in quickly rose as the years went by.

Continuing with his theme, Statham went on to make countless films as a rough and tough guy, the list includes: The Transporter films, The Italian Job (2003), Crank (2006) and The Expendables films, before moving to the Fast and Furious franchise in 2015. He also appeared in a Super Bowl advert for alongside Gal Gadot.


What makes Jason Statham such an inspiration?

Aside from being a good actor and clearly an incredibly popular one, his earlier life history as an Olympic diver clearly taught him about the importance of dedication and hard work. His physique and level of fitness are not to be laughed at, given that he is now in is mid 50s and still an incredibly in shape and healthy man. He has said in interviews before that health and fitness play an important role in his life and that working out is part of feeling good.

"Looking good and feeling good go hand in hand. If you have a healthy lifestyle, your diet and nutrition are set and you're working out, you're going to feel good. Your body is like a stick of dynamite, you can tap it with a pencil all day but you'll never make it explode. Hit it once with a hammer, bang. Get serious, do 40 hard minutes, not an hour and a half of nonsense."

On top of this, Statham actually set up a children's foundation in 2014, which helps to provide housing and educational support for over orphans. He is also a very friendly guy, despite seeming hard as nails. He regularly stops to chat with his fans and take pictures or sign autographs, and is always friendly and smiling during interviews.

He currently lives with his partner, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in California, and they have one son together.
